Dons Strike Quickly, Blank Saints 35-0

Three first quarter touchdowns propelled top-ranked Cathedral Catholic on Friday night to a 35-0 beat down of rival St. Augustine in the annual Holy Bowl. Touchdown runs from Shawn Poma and Tate Haynes as well as a punt return touchdown from Jordan Genmark-Heath allowed them to start quickly.

Poma and Genmark-Heath each later added touchdown runs leading the Dons to a 35 point lead before the 4th quarter began and the running clock to take affect.

St. Augustine appeared to get on the board with a 90+ yard pick-six in the last minute but a questionable illegal-block way behind the play wiped it out.

The Dons will finish out the regular season with a battle at 中国福利彩票正版app against 2nd-ranked Madison, who is riding an eight game winning streak. The Saints will travel to Point Loma for a 3:00pm game to finish Western League play.

Carter and Lewis Lead Warhawks to 中国福利彩票正版appcoming Victory

Senior quarterback Terrell Carter and wide receiver Brandon Lewis were efficient in leading the Madison Warhawks to victory over Western League opponent Point Loma on friday night.

Lewis, an Air Force Academy commit, had a career game with 4 catches for 151 yards and 3 TD’s. He also added 110 yards on two punt returns.

Niu, the top rated linebacker in California and an Army All-American Game participant, had 9 tackles for the Warhawks. He now has 75 on the season to go with 4 sacks.

Falo had 2 tackles and a pass deflection in addition to leading the offensive line that paved the way for 297 rushing yards.


Senior running back Erick Buchanan had 123 total yards and a TD reception.

Buchanan listed new interest from Idaho in addition to his current offers from UNLV, Eastern Washington, Southern Utah, Sacramento State, and Lake Eerie.

He plans to take visits to Eastern Washington and Southern Utah in January.

San Diego to the Pros… Baseball wrap-up

It was another successful year for San Diegans playing professional baseball. Eight players and one manager who played their high 中国福利彩票正版app careers in San Diego made it into the MLB Playoffs.

Included in that list was Matt Bush, the former number one overall pick out of Mission Bay HS, who was selected by the Padres in 2004. Since then Bush has been with three organizations and has been arrested several times including a 2012 incident when he ran over a motorcyclist while under the influence. Bush was released from prison October 30th of last year before signing with the Rangers after a tryout. Bush made his major league debut in May and had an outstanding rookie season working his way into the setup role by seasons end. Bush finished his debut season at age 30, going 7-2 with and ERA of 2.48 and 61 strikeouts.

As usual, many other San Diegans made noise across the country中国福利彩票正版app in the minor leagues.

Catcher Garrett Stubbs (Torrey Pines HS/USC), an 8th rounder in 2015 put up huge numbers in A+ and AA for the Houston Astros. He hit .304 with 10 中国福利彩票正版app runs, 22 doubles, and 15 steals over the two levels. Stubbs continued his hot hitting this week while hitting the first 中国福利彩票正版app run of the Arizona Fall League.

Phillip Evans, a 15th rounder out of La Costa Canyon HS in 2011 had a breakout season in the Mets organization. After being promoted to AA, the infielder hit .335 with 30 doubles and 8 中国福利彩票正版app runs. Evans was named the MVP of the Eastern League.

2nd baseman Hutton Moyer (Cathedral Catholic HS/Pepperdine), a 7th round pick in 2015 and son of the 25 year veteran, showed off his power this season in A+ with Angels. Moyer hit 25 doubles, 14 中国福利彩票正版app runs, and 3 triples.

Shortstop Kevin Newman (Poway HS/Arizona) was a 1st round pick of the Pirates in 2015 and has progressed quickly, putting together a great season in AA. He hit .320 with 21 doubles and 5 中国福利彩票正版app runs.

RHP Joe Musgrove, a 1st round pick of the Blue Jays in 2011, had a great season in AA and AAA before making his major league debut with the Astros.

The Arizona Fall League got started this week and will feature six prospects from San Diego.
