Week 1 Game Previews

The High School Football Season in San Diego will kickoff this Friday. I will be at Cathedral Catholic for five games over two days, as part of the . The two-day event will feature five of the preseason top ten teams in the county to start the year.

The first game at Manchester Field will feature two of San Diego’s top 10 teams–

#8 El Capitan vs. #6 Madison: 5:00pm, Friday

The Vaqueros lost a lot from last season’s State Runner-Up team including QB Brad Cagle, WR Isaiah Capoocia, and RB DJ Smith. The Warhawks lost dual-threat QB Kareem Coles to Idaho, but junior QB Terrell Carter looks to have weapons at receiver led by Shaheed Madyun. Junior LB  is one of the best linebackers in the county and will lead the defense.

#3 Cathedral Catholic vs. Rancho Santa Margarita: 8:00pm, Friday

The “Host” Dons did not have much success in this event last year, losing to eventual state champion Folsom, 55-10. They have a new quarterback, Tate Haynes, the son of NFL Hall of Famer, Mike Haynes. Columbia commit Hogan Irwin, will be the featured back in the Dons Wing-T commit. The defense will be led by senior LB , a Boise State commit, and DB , son of Eric Allen.

The Santa Margarita Eagles are primed for a huge season, as the #10 team in the state to start the season. Their QB, , placed 3rd in the Elite 11 this summer. The future Stanford signal-caller chose the Cardinal over USC and Michigan. He will get a huge boost with transfer WR, one of the best receivers in the nation. Junior OG  is a rising prospect.  leads the defense and is a heavily recruited LB for the Eagles.

#1 Helix vs. Chaparral (AZ): 2:00pm, Saturday

The Highlanders start the season as the premier team in San Diego. They return their QB , RB , and receivers  and San Jose State commit . They only return one player on the offensive line though, and will need to find a way make room for Austin and Stinson. The defense features LB’s  and Washington State commit . Junior  is a big-time player at safety. The Chaparral Firebirds have a pair of UC-Davis commits in DE  and TE . Junior QB Grayson Berry will be the full time starter after having success playing several games as a sophomore.

Bakersfield vs. Mountain Pointe (AZ): 5:00pm, Saturday

#10 Carlsbad vs. Brophy Prep (AZ): 8:00pm, Saturday

The Lancers, who won’t play a 中国福利彩票正版app game until week five, are led by LB , a highly sought over prospect on the West Coast. RB Layth Haddad and WR Kellen Peat will move into prominent roles after contributing as juniors. OT Zach Thomas is an anchor  on the offensive line that will to protect senior QB Shea Morales, who played in seven games as a junior. Brophy started their season last week with a 45-0 win. QB , a Harvard commit, is back after throwing for 24 TD’s a season ago as is RB , who has run for over a 1,000 yards each of the last two years. DE , brother of Redskin’s LB Trent Murphy, is a highly rated recruit.

  1. #5 Oceanside @中国福利彩票正版app San Marcos: The Pirates have lost a lot from last season including legendary coach John Carroll. Can the Knights start the season with a bang?
  2. #9 Torrey Pines @中国福利彩票正版app Steele Canyon: The Falcons begin the season in the top 10 for the first time in several years. Can they survive the trip south before a brutal schedule begins?
  3. #4 St. Augustine @中国福利彩票正版app Ramona: The Saints look to have some powerful pieces on both sides of the ball, but Ramona may have the most hostile environment in San Diego.
