Milb mid-season update


  • FullSizeRender-22011 La Jolla HS grad Brad Zimmer played in this week’s MLB Futures game along with many of the top prospects in minor league baseball. Zimmer, a 2014 1st round pick of the Cleveland Indians, is hitting .305 with 10 中国福利彩票正版app runs and was recently promoted to the double-A Akron Rubberducks.


  • 2011 Torrey Pines grad Garrett Stubbs (pictured with Golden Spikes winner Andrew Benitendi), an 8th round selection of the Houston Astros, was in Cincinnati this weekend for the All-Star festivities. Stubbs has started 6-30 in low-A, but has walked seven times and has thrown out 7 of 9 base stealers.
  • 2015 Rancho Bernardo grad Drew Finley, a 3rd round pick of the New York Yankees, has struck out nine batters in 7 2/3 innings so far in Rookie League, but has allowed three 中国福利彩票正版app runs.
  • 2014 Rancho Bernardo grad Alex Jackson, a 1st round pick of the Mariners has shown power in low-A, with seven doubles and two 中国福利彩票正版app runs, but has struck out 30 times in 80 at-bats.
  • 2010 La Costa Canyon grad Will Swanner has made his way to AA in the Rockies organization and has amassed 15 doubles and eleven 中国福利彩票正版app runs for the Rock Cats, but is striking out in more than 1/3 of his at-bats.
  • 1B Xavier Scruggs (Poway HS), 2B Greg Garcia (Valhalla HS), and Marcus Hatley (Mission Hills HS) have all seen time on the major league roster this season with the St. Louis Cardinals.
  • 2014 #1 overall pick Brady Aiken, of Cathedral Catholic HS, was drafted in the 1st round again this season by the Cleveland Indians. Aiken will not pitch for a while after undergoing Tommy John Surgery in the spring.
  • 2010 Torrey Pines grad Joey DeNato had a standout career as an All-American at Indiana and has since become a left-handed reliever with lots of success in the Phillies farm system.
  • 2013 Cathedral Catholic grad Stephen Gonsalves has had a huge season, starting in A ball and since moving to high-A. He’s posted a 1.67 ERA in 86 innings, while striking out 97.
  • 2011 Grossmont grad Joe Musgrove, a 1st round pick of the Blue Jays, has since been traded to the Astros and underwent Tommy John Surgery, but has had a breakout season moving from A-ball, to high-A, and now to AA. He’s 10-1 with 2.05 era and has struck out 75 batters in 74 2/3 innings.
