Eastlake shuts down St. Augustine, 23-0.

Isaiah Strayhorn got things started for the Titans with a 50 yard touchdown run on the 2nd possession of the game. With the lack of a passing game for the Titans, the Saints loaded the box with All-American Frank Buncom playing as an outside linebacker. Buncom made several stops in the backfield but the combination of Strayhorn, Traylon Reed, and Dean Klaser combined for 264 yards on the ground and kept the Saints off balance.

Junior running back Elijah Preston, the key to the Saints offense, was held to 36 yards on 14 carries before exiting late in the 2nd half. Francois Sims took the reigns from there, but the Titans defense held strong and were able to equal the same 23-0 score the defeated the Saints by last season.

Torrey Pines @中国福利彩票正版app Cathedral Catholic recap

The Torrey Pines student section had a theme coming into Friday’s rivalry game at Cathedral Catholic; Stay Hidden. Conveniently, the offense followed suit. Outside of an 84 yard scramble from quarterback Sandy Plashkes in the 3rd quarter, Torrey Pines managed 17 total yards on the night. The Wing-T was a respectable offense a few decades back. Those days are over. Cathedral Catholic utilizes a Wing-T offense as well, but their coaches are competent enough to realize that you must supplement it with something else. Don’s quarterback Clayton Dale operated out of the shotgun at least fifteen times on Friday. Sean Doyle gets it.

Torrey Pines has arguably the best wide receiver in San Diego in SDSU commit Jack Bailey. He had one touch on Friday night, a swing pass that went for a five yard loss, before leaving with a neck injury in the 4th quarter. He had one catch last week against Mission Hills, a 60 yard TD reception. Meanwhile, Torrey Pines still has yet to come up with a package of plays out of the shotgun. Mind boggling.

The Cathedral Catholic defense definitely lived up to the hype tonight. Future Boston College中国福利彩票正版app defensive tackle Ray Smith blew up at least 10-12 plays by penetrating into the backfield immediately. Stanford commit Casey Toohill helped on the edge and stopped and Torrey Pines ball carriers from turing the corner.

Torrey Pines @中国福利彩票正版app Mission Hills Wrap-up

Torrey Pines had a solid showing on Friday night despite a 21-17 loss to #3 Mission Hills. The play of the night came when Sandy Plashkes found San Diego State-bound WR Jack Bailey on a deep post route in stride for a 60 yard touchdown after Bailey beat Dechaun Holiday. That was the only play all night when Bailey touched the ball. The wing-t offense has never been a personal favorite of mine, but it blows my mind how a coaching staff can get their best player one touch in the entire game. The wing-t has become antiquated without a doubt. In the year of 2014, there has to be a way for a coaching staff to give their team the best chance to win without running this misdirection gimmick.

Mission Hills quarterback Dakota Miller showed his ability to scramble with touchdown runs of 10 and 59 yards. The Mission Hills offense will only improve over the season as Miller gets comfortable throwing to division one college targets Dechaun Holiday, Martrel Holmes, and Troy Warner.
